Abyss took on Jeff Hardy in a first-round match up in a number one contendership Mini-Tournament for the NWA World Heavyweight Title.

Abyss pounded Hardy at the start of the match until Hardy was able to make a comeback, using the ref to hit poetry in motion. Abyss would catch Hardy on a dive, a drive him back first into the ring post. Abyss tried to use his chain in the match, but Hardy wrapped it around Abyss’s legs and managed to take him down.

Abyss hit the Shock Treatment for a near fall. The end of the match came when Abyss went for a chokeslam, but Hardy turned it into a pin and managed to get a 3 count.

This was the first ever singles match between Abyss and Jeff Hardy.
